You Get What You Pay For
My parents did a great job taking care of us kids. Heck, just
having to deal with me was enough, let alone having two sisters
follow me.
The one theme I remember most throughout my time growing up was
"Money is Tight".
To make ends meet there were sacrifices to be made.
My mother would always pick the most cost effective items, yes,
the cheap ones with the idea of saving money now. But in the long
run she wound up purchasing another slightly better version a short
time later because it either broke or lost its effectiveness.
This is the way of families in our society who don’t have a
great deal to work with and it got me thinking about
entrepreneurs.
Whether we’ve started a business, a blog or just a website for
fun that has Google adsense on it, we want traffic.
How do we get traffic?
We can buy traffic.
Or create it through marketing.
Since we are a people born with a craving for instant
gratification we want traffic instantly. I want mine NOW! So we opt
to purchase traffic OR participate in programs which generate
traffic based on requirements (Clickthroughs, reviews, links to
websites or blogs).
Online Entrepreneurs see it advertised and blatantly proclaimed
everywhere.
Cheap Traffic! 5,000 Visitors Only $67.95
Thousands take the bait on a daily basis. Not unlike the scores
of people who believe paying to have your website submitted to
search engines does you even an ounce of good (I’ll cover this
one in another post).
The truth is, you get what you pay for and those 5,000 vistors
will earn you a fraction of what you spent, if anything at all.
Been there. Done that, and just so you know"the programs I
mentioned above which give you traffic based on the actions you
take, are of the highest cost. They steal your time.
When you’re building a business, blog OR hobby your time and
money are of great value.
My suggestion?
Dig in and start learning about Web 2.0 properties, start a
blog, write articles like this one--learn to create traffic. The
effort you put into things you do now for paid traffic, can be
shifted into something which will have compound interest with past
efforts bringing you more traffic.
You're in business to get away from trading time for money.
Don't do it in your home based business efforts either.
