Tomales
Tomales Bakery.
On sunny weekends,
count on finding a cluster of spandex-clad bikers outside this tiny
bakery. It's out of the way, but the handmade focaccia, with
toppings like tangy blue cheese and onion, speaks for itself—as do
the croissants, which are every bit as good as the real Parisian
deal. Owner Cameron Ryan, former pastry chef at San Francisco's
Campton Place, uses products from the Marin County Farmers' Market
and from local farmers.

Walk it off:
Though there are few
obvious trails at Dillon Beach, there's enough of a coastline to
make for a nice leg stretcher. Picnic tables are a bonus. The short
drive from Tomales Bay to the beach is, itself, breathtaking.
From Tomales Bay, take Dillon Beach Rd. about 5 miles. Parking,
$5 per car. For information contact Dillon's Beach Resort, which
runs a general store and cafe near the beach; (707)
