Today is the birthday of American author and humanitarian,
L. Ron Hubbard
(1911-86).
He was quite a guy! He has all this to his
name!:
- He is the world's most translated author with his works now available in 71 languages
- He is the world's most published author with over 500 written works and 3,000 recorded lectures. (Both records certified by Guinness World Records in October 2006)
- He is one of the greats of the Golden Age of science fiction. He was
equally prolific as an author of western, adventure, romance and
mystery
- He authored the world's biggest selling self-help book,
"Dianetics: The Modern
Science of Mental Health"
- He is the founder of Scientology, the applied religious philosophy that now has millions of followers in 160 countries, including many well known names such as Tom Cruise, John Travolta, Priscilla Presley and Lisa Marie Presley
- Programs using Mr. Hubbard's discoveries in drug rehabilitation are five times more effective than any other similar program
- His breakthroughs in the field of learning and literacy are used in more than 500 centers and have been incorporated into whole educational systems, with dramatic increases in student achievement
- His program for criminal reform, which produces a greater than 80 percent reduction in recidivism, is used in more than 2,000 prisons and penal institutions internationally
- The distribution of Mr. Hubbard's common sense moral code, The Way to Happiness, has statistically reversed declining moral trends across entire communities
- He developed a system of business administration (management technology) which is now used in thousands of companies world-wide
- Hundreds of United States Mayors and Governors proclaim March 13 as "L. Ron Hubbard Day" and Parks and Streets have been named after him in his honour e.g. L. Ron Hubbard Way in Los Angeles
- There is a permanent exhibition
dedicated to his life and work in Los Angeles
- He was also influential in the fields of psychiatric reform and human rights
