Singer Ne-Yo sues the promoter of R. Kelly tours, Rowe Entertainment. Ne-Yo, who was R. Kelly’s opening act for his ongoing “Double Up” tour, was abruptly booted from the tour in November. Ne-Yo claims that someone from R. Kelly’s camp asked Rowe to kick him off the tour because he was outshining Kelly.Ne-Yo, whose real name is Shaffer Smith, and Compound Touring Inc. filed the suit Monday in Los Angeles Superior Court against Georgia-based Rowe Entertainment Inc., alleging breach of contract and violation of the right of publicity.Compound Touring and Smith are seeking unspecified damages, but the suit maintains he was to be paid $785,000 for 25 shows opening for Kelly’s “Double-Up Tour” that began Nov. 14 and is still owed $735,000. Britney Spears’s high-powered L.A. attorney Sorrell Trope filed papers Wednesday asking the court for permission to be relieved from representing the pop star. “There has been a breakdown in communications” between his firm and Spears “making further representation of her interests impossible,” Trope stated in his motion. News of the latest blow to Spears in her ongoing custody battle with Kevin Federline was first reported by TMZ, which also reports that for the second time in less than a month Spears failed to appear at a scheduled deposition in the case on Wednesday. In the document filed by Trope, it’s revealed that five depositions are scheduled to take place in the case throughout January. Among those to be deposed is former body guard Anthony Barretto, who went public last September with allegations that Spears had “mental problems” and had almost overdosed on drugs. Volleyball star Gabrielle Reece and her husband, surfer Laird Hamilton, welcomed son Brody Jo Hamilton on New Year’s Day in Hawaii, their rep confirms. Brody, who was 8 lb., 2 oz., joins the couple’s first child, 4-year-old sister Reece Viola. Hamilton, 43, who also has a 12-year-old daughter from a previous marriage, has said Reece Viola faces some adjustments. “She is the center of the universe right now, and when the next one comes along it’s gonna rock her little boat a little bit,” he said in August. “But it’ll be great. … It will be great for her.” Reece, 37, stayed in top shape during her second pregnancy by playing competitive beach volleyball last summer and swimming.source
