A Morton’s Fork Coup is a coup in contract bridge involving the forcing of an opponent to choose between establishing one or more extra tricks in the suit led and losing the opportunity to win a trick in the suit led. It takes its name from the expression Morton’s Fork.
South receives the lead of the jack of diamonds against his six-spade contract. It appears that the contract has unavoidable losers in both hearts and clubs. Although an extra winner can be built in diamonds, the discard it provides is not of a losing card.
However, the contract can be made if South can manage either to discard the hearts from hand or take two heart tricks (thus having two club discards on K and a diamond honor). South plays low from dummy, ruffs, draws trumps, and leads a low heart from hand. If West takes the ace, declarer can unblock hearts, ruff out the ace of diamonds, then discard two clubs on dummy’s winning diamond and king of hearts. If West ducks, declarer again ruffs out the ace of diamonds, but now uses the established winner to discard the queen of hearts, losing only a club.
Note that declarer must be careful not to play a high diamond on the opening lead, as East could then withhold the ace, forcing the declarer to choose a discard prematurely.

Heimlich Menudo is a fictional anthropomorphic leopard villain in the animated television series Tale Spin. He appears in the episode Vowel Play. His name is a pun on the Heimlich Maneuver, a name he also chose for his master plan to steal all the diamonds in Cape Suzette (see below). He was voiced by Kenneth Mars.
Menudo was a gangster with an Italian accent who loved diamonds above all else, to the point that he had all his teeth removed and replaced with diamond ones, so that when he smiled he had a glittering grin. He wanted all the diamonds in Cape Suzette, and to this end he had his henchman Weazel (whose name must not be pronounced weasel, but “wee-zell”), trick Higher For Hire into skywriting secret messages to all of Heimlich’s henchmen throughout the city in a grand scheme he called the Heimlich Maneuver.
The Heimlich Maneuver involved holding Cape Suzette hostage with a fleet of hydrogen blimps and forcing the citizens to hand over all of their diamonds to Menudo, or else the blimps would bomb the city. Menudo was able to keep in contact with the blimp crews (or so he thought) through skywriting secret messages.
Baloo got wind of Heimlich’s plans thanks to Detective Thursday, and, despite his poor spelling, managed to write fake messages to fool the gangsters. Both Heimlich and Weazel were arrested by the police after their helicopter equipped with a diamond-tipped ramming nosecone crashed into the bay.
In a humorous turn, Menudo at one point accidentially starts choking on a diamond in front of an oblivious Weazel while both are in his office. However, Menudo manages to perform the Heimlich Maneuver on himself.

The curse of Scotland, also known as the Scourge of Scotland, is a term used in poker, bridge and various other card games for the nine of diamonds. The exact origins of the term is disputed but several theories exists.
The most common story is that the term arose after the Massacre of Glencoe due to a resemblance in the playing card and Sir John Dalrymple coat of arms. Another story is that the order for no quarter at the Battle of Culloden written on a nine of diamonds by the Duke of Cumberland. However, the term is first recorded in 1710, which definitely rules out any connection with Culloden, but does fit a possible connection with Glencoe. Another story is that Mary Queen of Scots death warrant was signed on the nine of diamonds by Elizabeth I.
Other less popular theories include the term deriving from a tax levied to pay for nine diamonds stolen from the crown of Scotland or that the term is a mispronunciation of “The Cross of Scotland” due to a resemblance in the patterns of St. Andrew’s Saltire and the playing card.
A plausible but mundane explanation is that the term comes from a card game “Pope Joan” (first mentioned in 1732) where the nine of diamonds is called the “Pope”. As Scotland has traditionally been a strongly Protestant country the Pope would be in a sense its curse.

Funky Koval is a 3-part Polish science fiction/detective story/political fiction genre comic book published in People’s Republic of Poland in the 1980s. It gained a cult following and is still recognized as one of the best Polish comics.
Contents |
The scenario for the comic was created by Maciej Parowski and Jacek Rodek; the drawings were done by Bogusław Polch. It was first published in November 1982 on four black and white pages in the second issue of Fantastyka, Polish sci-fi magazine. The first episodes were more of the ‘comic short story’ format, and have generated both much praise and critique among the readers. Later, the comic moved from short story format to more lengthy, novel-like plots. It should be noted that plot-wise the series has never ended.
With the release of the ‘Komiks-Fantastyka’ series in 1987 comics were moved rereleased in this comic spin-off, and Koval was soon released in 3 albums (”Bez oddechu” (Without a breath), “Sam przeciw wszystkim” (Alone against everyone), “Wbrew sobie” (Against oneself)). The first album, Bez oddechu, contained collected stories published earlier (1982-1983), reprinted in Fantastyka, colored and with some additional panels to allow more seamingless transition between various stories. The second collected the 1985 more novel-like story; the third - the 1991-1992 story. All comics first debuted in ‘Fantastyka’ and were later released as color albums.
In 2002 it was reprinted again in a mega-album “Klasyka Polskiego Komiksu - Funky Koval”, it also contained the beginning of the fourth series - “Bez litosci” (Without mercy). Gossip and semi-official promises about that new parts of the comics have been circulating for many years, but no official announcement have been made so far if and when it will be actually released.
Notable feature of the comic is art of Bogusław Polch, known for his unique style and minute attention to details. He was known to put much more details into his drawings that could be actually printed in the comics; many of his panels are rich with tiny details - for example, in one panel showing Koval’s room the reader can see names of the books and magazines on his bookshelf (they include works by Philip K. Dick, Stanislaw Lem and the ‘Fantastyka’ magazine). Many gadgets have logos of known companies (such as Sharp and Sony), and their characteristics shapes - of videophones, guns, spaceships or flying cars - are also one of the trademarks of that comic book.
The art in the third series is different from that in the first two: in the third series Polch experimented with more simple style, sometimes bordering on caricatures. This change proved to be a disappointment to some fans used to his earlier, more detailed and realistic style.
The plot resolves around the figure of former military pilot and now space detective, Funky Koval, who with his friends and colleagues from private detective agency “Universs” solves various cases in the futuristic world of 2080s. His investigations will range from corruption in the police and government, through fighting cultists and terrorists, investigating missing spaceships and illegal slave camps, to the mystery of the Drolls aliens, who seem to have a much more advanced technology than the humans, and whose plans for the humanity - if any - remain a mystery.
This comic book gained a cult following in Poland, partially due to the high quality of drawings and plot, and partially due to many subtle connections with the real world of the 1980s Poland (martial law in Poland, Jerzy Urban, Polish Round Table Agreement). Although some of those elements are no longer easily read by modern audience, the comic is still seen as one of the best Polish sci-fi works, and has influenced several more recent works.

Eros and Agape
ISBN 0-8446-6051-5) is the title of a two-volume treatise
written by the Swedish theologian Anders Nygren, first published in
Swedish in 1930-1936. It analyses the connotations of two Greek
words for love, eros (sexual love)and agape
(unconditional love), and concludes that agape is the only
truly Christian kind of love, and that eros (an expression
of the individual’s desires) turns us away from God. This may be
contrasted with the conclusions of Pope Benedict XVI in his first
encyclical, Deus Caritas Est, that both eros and
agape are aspects of divine love.
It is more accurate to use “eros” as Nygren used it: transcendent acquisitive and/or philosophical love.

When she begins to have strange experiences, she realizes that something is wrong.
“It is said that emotions are the language of the soul. But what happens when that expression is muted? What becomes of feelings… that have no voice?”
Beth begins to hear voices, and even sees space aliens who make experiments on her. The doctors suspect that this is a result of the implant and want to remove it.
Beth escapes from the hospital and returns to the house where she was before. She discovers a secret room with space alien props. Two people get into the room and reveal that it was all a big show to discredit the implant as a favor for a competing company. Beth is hiding and hears all. Beth comes out and kills the two by pushing them out of a window. Then at the end she has the implant removed by a court decree. Days later at home she is stroking her cat and makes a small smile on her face.

Pattern mining is the task of finding existing patterns in data. In this context patterns often means association rules. The original motivation for searching association rules came from the need to analyze supermarket transaction data, that is, to examine customer behaviour in terms of the purchased products. For example, an association rule “beer => chips (80%)” states that four out of five customers that bought beer also bought chips.

Vegetotherapy is a form of psychotheraphy that involves the physical manifestations of emotions. The basic and founding text of vegetotherapy is Wilhelm Reich’s Psychischer Kontakt und vegetative Stroemung (1935), later included in the enlarged edition of Reich’s Character Analysis (1933, 1949).
The practice of vegetotherapy involves the analyst asking the patient to physically simulate the bodily effects of strong emotions. This simulation causes the patient to experience the emotions simulated, thus releasing emotions pent up inside both the body and the psyche. The catharsis of emotive expression breaks down the cathexis of stored emotions. While experiencing a simulated emotional state, the patient may reflect on past experiences which should have caused that emotion, but where the emotion has not been fully resolved. These emotions are described as stored emotions, and in Reichian analysis are seen as manifesting in the body. Vegetotherapy relies of a theory of stored emotions, or affects, where emotions build tensions in the structure of the body. This tension can be seen in posture, facial expression or muscular stress.
Examples of vegetotherapy and interviews with analysts and
patients who have undergone vegetotherapy, can be seen in the film
Room for Happiness, directed by Dick Young and approved by

American College of Orgonomy.
