Ghostbusters
The Video Game Wii Preview
True to the spirit of the saga, Ghostbusters The Video Game
features virtual actors who will be easily recognized. Dan Aykroyd
and Bill Murray also lent their voices to the characters of the
game. However, the scenario does not include the plot of one of the
existing films. It can be seen as a third episode, which takes
place in 1991 and offers again to go out and hunt ectoplasms. In
those monsters, there are some known heads, starting with the most
representative of the license: the green and translucent Slimer and
the giant Bibendum Chamallow.
The modeling of creatures, heroes and environments looks very well
and we are instantly taken back in the series. The atmosphere is
enhanced by the presence of a physics engine capable of handling
the destruction of many elements in the scenery. The developers
even encourage us into carnages, since every objects destroyed
increases the amount of money you will earn at the end of the
mission. Even better, some opponents are created from debris. So,
we are taken there to face a golem made of books and a lamp in the
New York library! Classic Oopponents can be captured through the
technological arsenal of Dr. Egon Spengler. Hunted in the first
time with a spectra detector (which also provides information on
their characteristics and weaknesses), they must be weakened with
various weapons, and then brought into the beam from the device
previously placed on the ground. The gameplay of this last step is
close of the one in fishing games, because we must fight against
the movements of some recalcitrant preys. On the Nintendo Wii, the
Wiimote and the Nunchuck seem to be great in detecting our
movements.
In the solo adventure, we will visit New York, some levels taking
place in parallel dimensions. There will also be a multiplayer mode
with gamemodes, some based on cooperation, others being more
competitive. We still don’t know if a ranking of the best online
players will be available for the Wii. It will also be possible to
play the main scenario with some friends, despite the presence of
quasi-permanent virtual teammates who are able to help us when we
fall In battle. In fact, only the Wii version will have a real
cooperative mode for the solo. A point to moderate right now,
because the current beta version suffers from many slowdowns when
you play in split screen.
In conclusion, the release the Ghostbusters The Video Game is
supposed to be on June 19th, so we hope that Red Fly Studio will
have enough time to correct the few flaws that we saw on the beta
version.
