Looks like cigarettes aren’t the only things that attack people’s lungs. Watch out for airborne fir tree seeds!

So, you’ve heard stories about people walking around for years with pencils in their brains and nails in their stomachs, but this one might be the wildest yet. A Russian man found a two-inch fir tree growing in his lung. You read that right: a freaking pine tree growing in his lungs!

Doctors can only guess that he inhaled a fir seed years ago, and the little guy just took root in his lung tissue. You can picture this guy going to his doctor: “I don’t know, doc. I’ve tried to take care of my body, take a lot of walks in the forest, inhale pine seeds. But now, every time I breathe, it feels like needles are stabbing me from inside.”

Thankfully, a biopsy accidentally discovered the tree. The tree and the surrounding tissue have been removed and are being preserved for further study and probably just morbid curiosity.

Next time you feel like crying over a splinter in your finger or your kid swallowing a penny, count your blessings. You could have a frakkin’ conifer sprouting in your vital organs. Ouch!
