The domain name
If you plan on being serious about making money by blogging, then guess what? YOU NEED A DOMAIN NAME.
I have heard every argue in the book on whether one REALLY needs a domain name. I can tell you first hand, you are going to WANT a domain name.
First of all, when was the last time you remembered a website address that was not a .com? Have you ever remembered a page like www.somehost.com/somesite? Or somesite.somehost.com? They are hard to remember!
You want something that is easy to remember and fits in well with you website content. A name like totalflattery.com for a blog about relationships is much easier to remember then something like totalflattery.wordpress.com.
Making your address easy to remember is not the only advantage to a domain name. It also help with search engines and link trades. Many directory sites will not deal with websites who do not have a domain name.
You can also use keywords in selecting your domain name to help with search engine results. Something like mymusicblog.com will get a lot better results when people search for music blog in a search engine then would jimsfavoritemusic.com
So I highly recommend getting yourself a domain name. Now you
can search the internet all day looking for the best deal on a
domain name, but I have found that GoDaddy.com
is by far the cheapest at any given
moment.

Good info. I’m going to get around to this here soon as my current URL is terrible.
Not that I’m totally impressed, but this is more than I expected when I stumpled upon a link on Digg telling that the info is awesome. Thanks.
