This
pattern uses a technique known as short row knitting. It is so
called because
you do not knit the full number of stitches on each row, instead
you stop and turn
at a set point part way through your row. This makes the row a
"short" row as it is
never completed.
The
numbers in brackets at the end of each pattern row indicate how
many stitches
you are working on NOT the complete number of stitches on your
needles.
The
pattern looks rather complicated in written form. Don't let that
put you off !
When you have the work in front of you, and have completed a few
rows you will be
able to recognise where the next decrease will come almost
automatically. So, as you
get familiar with the pattern it is likely you will no longer need
to follow the
instructions at all and will just be able to see where to place
your next decrease.
If
you prefer, you can substitue the SSK decrease with Slip one, Knit
one pass
slipped stitch over. The SSK is preferable as it forms a tighter
and neater
decrease.
