Six hundred firefighters at the staging point where the VMs are located are working 12-hour shifts. Many of them are crediting Scientology assists*, delivered by the VMs, with keeping them on the job despite the grueling conditions, with smoke from the fires so thick its effect is being felt as far away as New Zealand.
