EX
Question
Hi James,
I have a 1990 Honda Accord EX, Automatic Transmission. Recently i
observed the speedometer is behaving weirdly. I observed the
speedometer stopped working when i was in the highway. The speed
was shown as zero. After couple of minutes the "S" indicator
(Sports) started blinking. Then "Engine Check" light start burning.
I came home. Stopped the car and started again, everything was
normal. This happend 2 weeks ago. Again the day before yesterday i
had the same problem. I drove my car yesterday, it was working
properly. The speedometer was working properly.
Looks like intermittently the speedometer is not working correctly.
I haven't gone to the honda dealership for service. Approximately
how much it would cost to fix this problem?. What would be the
problem?
Answer
Hello it sounds like you have a speed sensor going out on the
trans. It is not a big deal. I would take it to an independent
shop. It will be chepper than the dealer. The computer on the car
uses the speed sensor to cause the trans to shift. So i would get
it fixed soon. Good luck
