Hello, I'm new here, and I've seen some threads on jeans- and I'd
like to add some knowledge on Denim, seeing as I do It for a
hobby!
If you want to have Jeans that look like they came straight from
Abercrombie, you are going to need some supplies first.
Lets start with the basics.
----------------------------------
100% Cotton Denim blue jeans. New or old, it dosn't matter. Old
[thrift store, hand me downs, wear and tear] work the best due to
the nature of their condidtion.
**NOTE** Abercrombie use a style called 5 POCKET. This means that
the pockets do not decend, but start and end at the same high
level. Also, if you are a guy, you might want to look for either a)
girls pants that are 2-4 wasit sizes to big, or pants with
short crotch stitching ***
A mixture of Water and sea salt in a medium tub.
Belt sander, or Hard [wood stripping] sand paper.
--------------
THE WASH
--------------
This is how to obtain the Vintage wash of jeans. Due to my
location, i use Water from the Gulf of Mexico and Epsom salt mixed
together. Table salt works fine, too.
After making the solution, add the jeans into the water, and let
them soak from 3 days ***NOTE*** Check up on them everyday, because
the denim sucks up the water, and you might need to refil. Keep
them in a dry, cool place- I put mine under my utility sink.
After the 3 days have past, take the jeans and your sand paper. The
jeans will be WET, and dripping, so lay them out on the driveway
for 10 minutes before we start, or the sand paper gets soggy.
To do the wash, find a focus point on the jeans, and start
scrubbing HARD!! The way a wash works is that it strips denim and
dye from the jeans. You'll see parts of your sandpaper come off
onto the jeans- perfectly normal.
After scrubbing them down, let them dry. It's time for the **hard**
Part.
--------------------------------
VINTAGE DESTRUCTION
--------------------------------
What you will need:
A Boxcutter. [Razor blades are hard to handle]
Patience.
Masking tape.
First, put on the pair of jeans. Using masking tape, mask off the
spots where you wish to have destruction. ***NOTE*** To ensure your
jeans do not look tacky, have some wash AND destruction on the
BACKSIDE of the jeans. ***
Just cutting a hole in the jeans looks super tacky, and even after
fraying, it looks cliche. To get the desired abercrombie "Missing
denim but attached threads" look, you are gonna need
PATIENCE.
At the masking taped areas, make a HORIZONTAL incision on the top
and bottom of the jeans. Turn the piece around (to as far as it
will go) and you will see that the jeans are Cross stiched White
and denim. The object of making the look is to use to bok cutter to
LEFT the White part, and then remove the denim thread.
***NOTE*** To make a abercrombie Kneecap hole, make 3 horizontal
cuts. Using the Middle piece, de-thread and pull the white threads
to the side, so eventual clumps of white thread start appearing.
When half way through the top, flip it around and start working the
thread to the other side of the knee cap. When finished, pull out
the loose denim. After accomplishing this, take the box cutter and
make the hole in the knee cap more "square" on the right and left
sides. This way, when you walk, it will be an opened hole, not
closed.
You can also try putting on knee pads (under the jeans) and roll
around on a skateboard (on your stomach) and let your knee's and
feet drag. Also, have yourself- or parent, runover the jeans a few
times ***NOTE*** DO NOT LET YOUR PARENT ROLL OVER ANY
BUTTONS!!!!***

Finishing touches
-------------------------
From here on out, it's what ever you want to do to mod the Pants.
With pairs that I make, I've gone from Add Rhinestones to Using
Bleach Pens and paint.
Some tips:
VINTAGE PAINT SPLATER:
Take a brush, and dip it in white paint. Make sure the most of it
drips off into the can. Walk over to your jeans and gently FLICK
the brush. Different sizes and shapes will scatter over the jeans,
creating a really cool effect.
ENHANCE WASH/BLEACH STAINS:
Buy a clorox bleach pen. It's the most amazing invention ever.
Using the brush side, put some evenly painted bleach on your wash.
the more bleach you use, the more it will lighten it.
To make bleach stains, take bleach and, as before, dip a brush in
it. Gently flick it to the desired ammount.
RHINESTONES:
These take forever. Get a rhine stone machine, and apply desired
ammounts and patterns.

Hopefully this will answer and inspire people to take denim to the
next level
Have fun with it. If there are any question, post it and let me
know.
