Commodities such as gold are supposed to make up at most just 5% of a portfolio, according to financial planners. With the recent price jump -- gold has soared more than $100 to about $600 per ounce over the past year -- many people's portfolios may be overweighted in the commodities sector. That isn't good because it puts the entire portfolio in jeopardy if gold prices fall.
