The re-imagined Battlestar Galactica series began with the destruction of the 12 colonies by the cylons. Baltar unknowingly assisted the cylons because his assistant was in fact a human looking cylon. The Galactica is the only warship to survive the assualt, and together with other spacecraft and those humans still alive, they flee the cylons.

Roslin is the highest rank political official left, and she assumes the presidency becoming the political leader. Adama remains the head of the military and Galactica.

Meanwhile, the humans quickly learn about the human looking cylons. These cylons are indistinguishable from humans. Cylons are believed to be among the fleet, and may even be unaware they are cylon until they are activated. In addition, the tin can cylons are pursuing the fleet, lead by other activated human looking cylons.

Battlestar Galactica was originally a late 70s early 80s TV series by Glen A. Larson. It attempted to capitalize on the popularity of Science Fiction genre (thanks to Star Wars).

The SciFi or Syfy network re-imagined the series. The new series was a drama set with a science fiction background. The basic components were the same, cylons, battlestars, vipers, basestars, raiders, and commander Adama. But this time the cylons looked like humans (usually the hallmark of a poor “alien” movie with no budget for aliens). Of course, you still had the old style tin can cylons too. Starbuck and Boomer were macho colonial viper pilots in the first series. Now they were women. Everyone cries more than they did the first series.

The new series did tackle tough subject matter. Should Starbuck torture capture human looking cylons? Should the resistance fighters on New Caprica employ suicide bombers? Was Felix Gaeta the bad guy for staging a military coup?
