Counting Black Jack. How to Count Cards. The history of the
Blackjack
game
is unique feature. Tracking what cards have
been played and discarded tells you what cards have yet to played,
predicting the future. This is the essence of
card
counting
. Recognizing when there are more high
value cards waiting to played indicates the statistical advantage
has shifted from the dealer to the player. The dealer must draw
additional cards below a total of 17. A greater number of
high
cards
increases the chances the dealer will bust.
A card counter can increase the bet when he recognizes a change in
the
odds
, beating the house.
The hi low method is the original method. It sets the following
card values.
2 through 6 cards = +1
7 through 9 cards = 0
10, Jack, Queen, King and Ace cards = -1
Adding these values to create running count tracks the history
of the game. A true count is calculated by dividing the running
count by the number of decks remaining. A high true count indicates
the odds favor the player and the
wager
is increased.
The red seven method is an easier alternative. The card values
are…
2 through 6 cards = +1
red seven (diamonds or hearts) = +1
black seven (clubs or spades) = 0
8 through 9 cards = 0
10, Jack, Queen, King and Ace cards = -1
By changing the card values from the hi lo method, the red seven
becomes an unbalanced count. The reason behind this is that the
unbalanced count no longer needs to calculate a true count. Keeping
the running count is all that is required. This makes the the
method much easier to use than the hi-lo method and at very little
statistically difference.
