Battlestar Galactica Episodes
Battlestar Galactica was television
series broadcast on the SciFi or SyFy channel. It was based on a
television series of the same name from the early 1980s. The
first Battlestar Galactica series helped launch the acting career
of Dirk Benedict who portrayed Starbuck, a colonial viper
pilot.
The Battlestar Galactica premise of human beings (or human like beings) fighting against machines comes from the Beserker series of science fiction stories. In the Beserker series, the beserkers are space faring, artificially intelligent machines that seek out organic life and destroy it. In the books, it is assumed that machines were built by long dead organic life for the purpose of waging war, but no one has direct knowledge of their origins.
The first TV series has cyclon machines which behave and have similar origins as the beserkers. The original cylons were reptilian creatures. They created the cylons machines. The organic cylons died out long ago, leaving behind the machines.
The new 2nd series clearly states that the cylons were built by the humans of the twelve colonies. Approximately 50 years before the start of the Battlestar Galactica series the machines waged a war against the humans. That war gave saw the construction of the Battlestar Galactica. It ended with the cylons migrating to a world of their own. Every year since the end of the war, the twelve colonies sent an ambassador to a remote station to open diplomatic talks with the cylons. The cylons send no one.
The opening mini series begins with an attack by the cylons 40 years after the end of the first war. Gaius Baltar and the colonies have begun using computer networks, no longer thinking the cylons are a threat. The cylons exploit these networks and destroy the 12 colonies, leaving only 50,000 survivors assembled in a fleet with the Galactica in the lead. It is also revealed that there a human looking cylons as well as the tin can or toaster cylons.
