The local Council of Taunton has plans to turn the current local bingo hall into a venue which would "attract top stars such as Madonna". The plans include a youth club, outdoor music and events arena, gallery, bars and restaurants.



According to the BBC website, Campaigner Jim Laflin from Project Gaumont said he has had interest from the National Ballet and that Lloyd Webber's musicals to perform there. "We believe this building is grossly underused" said Jim.



On the other hand, a spokesperson for the bingo hall said that they had "no plans to go anywhere". However Jim believes they all can work together and put the bingo hall being held in the grand building above the main entrance. This would then free up the auditorium, which has a 1,750 capacity, to "restore it to a tier one theatre" and they would also turn Castle car park into an outdoor music arena.



"They might say they have no plans to move out and I'm quite sure as of today they don't, but why would a business turn down the possibility of saving £100,000 per annum when really there is no disadvantage to them whatever," he added.



At a public meeting, the Council decided to pass a resolution to support the long term use of the theatre for performance.

Do you know Gary Barlow and his wife Dawn Barlow?  Gary is a pop singer  and one of the last big ravers.  January 12th 2010 he and his wife celebrated their 10th anniversary and invited their friends to a game of bingo at their star studded party.



The big event took place at London’s Mandarin Oriental hotel as Gary used to work at the men’s club there.  He became a bingo caller for the night and everyone had their eyes down for a full house.



There were daubers and cards on all the tables when they arrived at the bash; the party was also a fundraiser for the Barmado’s Charity.



One of the guests reported: “Gary spent a lot of money to make sure Dawn had a party to remember , treating her to a couple of nights in the hotel's most luxurious suite.” He also said “Gary hosted the bingo, calling the numbers out. They all got into the spirit of things.”

Cecily Gauson who has just turned 100 maintains that her retirement is “out of the question”, and keep calling bingo three times a week. From New South Wales, she was born on New Year’s Day in 1910 and she is perfectly healthy and full of energy.



The centenarian has received a huge birthday cake with 100 candles.  Cecily has had some sad times  in her life; her dad died during the 1917’s flu pandemic and she lost her husband from radiation sickness  after he has served in the 50’s during nuclear testing in Maralinga. She keep thinking that her husband’s death should never happened, she mentioned  “I think war is a terrible thing; there shouldn’t ever be wars.”



Ms Gauson is completely sure that the secret to live healthy so long is having a good breakfast and not smoking. She said “I had a beautiful sister and I’m the only one left and I’m the only one who didn’t smoke.” But, one thing keeping her going is  her love for the bingo.  The centenarian still enjoys being a bingo caller even if she has been doing it for 40 years now. She said “I think I have a bit of fun with them; I’ll toss in a few jokes in the meantime and we’ll have a laugh.” “I think laughter is the best medicine for anything.”



The Queen, the Governor-General and Prime Minister Kevin Rudd have sent their congratulations to her. Cecily answered to Kevin Rudd sending him this message; “Don’t forget the lower class people-they’ve got the right to live the same as anybody else.”



And to finish this positive news Cecily Gauson has a good advice for everyone who desires to have a long and healthy life; “Just keep active and keep doing whatever you do. It is recommended if your stairs connect two floors that you make the sign of the cross as soon as you reach the first step to prevent a stumble. If in the middle of the stairs you suddenly remember that you left something forgotten and you must return, it is recommended not to stop. First you must complete upstairs before going down again, to avoid bad luck.

Do not call it Bingo, called it "Bufet".

In a California town called "Santa Clarita" a group of senior citizens meet every week to play bingo, sorry, I mean to play "bufet". It is exactly the same bingo game that we all know only with a different name, taken from the restaurant where they play.

Bufet Bingo began 11 years ago as entertainment for senior citizens in town. They wanted to give them something that was really fun and thought about bingo, but decided to call it a different name and that is how this unusual name was born.

The bingo caller is a cheerful blonde who calls the balls with the same enthusiasm of an auctioneer. She made her first bet playing Keno when she was 32 years old and says that since that time she hit a streak of luck that has not ended. "I am a lucky person," she says. "I have lots of lucky numbers."

These passionate bingo players do not play for money but instead the prizes are gift cards; they just want to enjoy their favorite game, share it with friends and enjoy complimentary drinks offered by the restaurant. They meet on Monday morning to socialize but the socializing must occur between games because when the numbers start to be called the room is totally silent. The silence is only interrupted when someone yells bingo.
