Bingo players from Rochdale North
had a great and very informative
bingo night where they got important advice about
crime prevention.
Neighborhood Policing Team supported by crime reduction advisors
and the council’s community safety team, was in charge of
delivering the message. Around 70 people attended the event where
they learned to recognize what things are appealing to a burglar,
how they can take active steps to prevent their properties and
possessions from being stolen and how to identify a bogus caller,
amongst other things.
Sheila Acton chair of north area partnership, said: “It was a
fantastic afternoon; everyone got so much from it because of the
way the messages were delivered. I think it is great that we can
work with police and the community on such a local level. It is not
the first time we have worked with them and I am sure this is
something which is likely to continue into the future.”
What a great way to have fun and help community! We are sure people
from Rochdale North enjoyed their
bingo games and now they live
safer.
We’d like to share the following tips with you, so you can live a
safer life as well.
Always keep all doors and windows locked. A large percentage of
burglaries occur through unforced entries.
When you are on vacation or away for an extended time, arrange for
your mails to be picked up, once the mail man delivers them.
Always ask for an ID, from anyone who is at your door, even if they
are wearing a uniform. Most importantly, don't open your door to
anyone that you are not expecting.
Place motion sensor lights around your house, so that you can be
aware, if someone is lurking outside.
When you leave your house, turn down the ringer on your phone. This
is a dead give away to burglars.
If it's possible, change all the locks on your doors, when you move
into a new home.
You can also put up a, "Beware of Dog," sign in your yard or you
can get a dog.
