I don't think it's so much the points, it's to see how many questions I can answer, and how many best answers I get.

For elitism, duh. We want points so we can be better than the people with fewer points, at least on Y!Answers.

it is just for bragging rights, i mean if your number one it feels pretty good and you help other people out, so your self esteem goes up too, it is a win win.

its an opportunity to help those in need, except for the stupid questions. points don't mean anything because the are not worth anything.

I think its supposed to be an incentive to get people to participate but you don't get anything in return. Its really rather strange how people will keep competing for points but never really get anything.

It's just for fun. You don't win any prizes or anything. Just a way to keep track of how you're doing and if people like your answers.

I don't care a twit about the points. They are worthless to me.

I couldn´t care less about the points.....I just find it very interesting to share different points of view, and info.

As you progress to the next level you can ask more questions. I get points because I'm bored and have nothing to work on right now. I also need someone to talk to, but I think people here get points only to show-off.

I don't get it either but it is still fun. I actually learn stuff from browsing through questions, sometimes I even get interested in a question enough to look something up myself out of curiosity!

it's the only points of mine that make sense.......it's all for fun to see how many points you got , they don't really mean anything ..

I don't want points. I can improve my information by searching in others problems. and i test my self by answering them. and sometimes when i want some information i ask. the reason of yahoo answers is not points

The points are intended as some kind of measurement of quality. It is hard (but not impossible) to get into high point ranks with just silly remarks. The statistics (when you click on a profile) which show e.g. the percentage of best answers were later additions. The point system just staid in.

The points also are meant as a regulative to avoid too many repetitions of the same silly questions over and over again, like blueness of sky. Not certain they really help, but they don't hurt.

Spend another week on Answers and you'll understand. It's addicting. I have no idea why I want all these points, but I do. Yesterday, I stayed at work 30 minutes longer than I had to just trying to break 800 points. Stupid, yes. I'm serious about starting a 12-step program for YA addicts. "Hi, I'm browneyedgirl. I'm a Yahoo! Answer-aholic and I've been offline for 16 hours...."
