Operation Freakout was the name of a program thought up by
members of the Guardian's
Office in 1976 with the goal to get Paulette Cooper - that time
a psychologist who had infiltrated Scientology for her first book
ever - to stop spreading derogatory information about the Church of
Scientology.
Since the beginning of the 1970s the relation between the
Guardian's Office and Paulette Cooper had escalated to
million-dollar damage claims and harassment on both sides. The
hysteric plan called "Operation Freakout" was straight out of a bad
spy movie and included a plan for illegal activities.
The Operation was never executed and got ditched before it even
reached the attention of Church officials. It however made its way
to the media and is one of those half-truths you read about when
looking at biased anti-Scientology websites.
