MySpace Notifier isn’t the only app hoping to serve addicted MySpacers: You Got Comments has just arrived on the scene, providing a Windows application that will pop-up an alert or send an email or text message to alert you to new comments, messages, friend requests, birthdays and event invitations.

CoolComment Makes MySpace Comments Cooler

Another new startup that MySpacers will love and geeks won’t get at all. Newly launched CoolComment, which went live earlier this month, is a service from mobile content company EglooMedia, providing a downloadable application designed solely for creating those flashy glitter comments that social networking users love so much (and everyone else hates). Users create comments using a downloadable application, but they can also browse the gallery for ready-made comments in categories like Animals, Glitter, Horror, Love, Motor and Special Occasions. As always, it’s a case of grabbing the code and pasting it into your comments on MySpace, Xanga and elsewhere.

I use very different criteria for judging MySpace add-ons than your run-of-the-mill startup. From monitoring the data at Mashable Labs, we’ve seen certain add-ons take off like wildfire - surprisingly, the tools that take off are often incredibly ugly and poorly coded. Here’s one datapoint for you: Dundoo now appears on around 10,000 profiles, up from 4000 twelve days ago (incidentally, Dundoo is one of the better designed products in this space). As we’ve seen with MySpace itself, the average person isn’t too concerned if your site breaks, so long as you give them the freedom to express themselves. But CoolComment might have limited their growth by offering a download: MySpace users regularly access the site via a shared PC, the computer at a friend’s house, their college and so on, where downloading an application might not be possible. The savviest MySpacers should also have concerns about downloading software now that Zango and other adware distributors are targeting MySpace users.

A quick scan of the Mashable Labs data shows that CoolComment appears on around 1500 MySpace profiles a few weeks after going live, although it’s possible that the founders themselves are using the product.
