This just annoys the hell out of me.

It seems that so many bloggers and digg-submitter-types find it necessary to label almost everything “Web 2.0″.

I thought I might clear a few things up (as well as get vent some of my frustrations), so here is a list of things that AREN’T “2.0″.

Web 2.0 is not

  1. Tag Clouds
  2. AJAX (Don’t just use AJAX if it has no purpose)
  3. Pointless JavaScript effects (We don’t care if you can make your content slide around)
  4. Gradients
  5. Rounded Corners
  6. Drop Shadows
  7. Large Text
  8. Dropping letters from names (Flickr did it first, it’s been done now)

Trendy design elements have very little to do with “Web 2.0″.

Sure, use gradients, give your site more whitespace, play with text sizes, just don’t call it “Web 2.0″.

Read about what Web 2.0 actually is before you start using it an utterly useless situations.
