Activision’s Guitar Hero Guru Talks Music Games
June 11, 2009LOS ANGELES — Activision was all about the Hero when it came to E3. And for good reason. The Guitar Hero franchise has generated over $2 billion in sales for the game publisher. At E3, Activision introduced DJ Hero with a lavish party that included Eminem and Jay-Z performing for a packed house.
At the Activision E3 booth, there was the new Band Hero game aimed at youngsters and Guitar Hero 5, along with the aforementioned DJ Hero, which comes with a controller shaped like a DJ deck. Dan Rosensweig, president and CEO of Guitar Hero at Activision, took a break from the music to talk about how big the Hero franchise has become.
Where does DJ Hero fit into the Guitar Hero gaming audience?

What impact do you feel DJ Hero will have on the mainstream gaming audience?
DJ Hero welcomes a whole new gaming audience while expanding the current Guitar Hero fan base utilizing today’s most popular music. We have created an innovative, fun, competitive, engaging experience that combines this incredibly popular music set with a really fun game and an innovative turntable that lets you scratch, mix, beat match, sample . . . all the moves that real DJs use to “Rule the Party”.
How do you see artists supporting this game compared to the support of Guitar Hero?
