Spring has sprung which means it's time for that thing everybody hates…spring cleaning. The changing of the seasons is the perfect time to give your house a full top to bottom scrubbing. It's the time to de-clutter and get rid of the junk that has piled up over the last year, but where to start? Check out this list of easily overlooked spaces that you should definitely not forget to clean this spring.

Get Behind the Big Stuff

Now is the time to move the sofa, bed, dresser and any other heavy furniture you normally don't mess with. Dust bunnies and pet hair love to gather behind large pieces of furniture, but they go unnoticed since the mess can't be seen. Pull each item away from the wall and use the crevice vacuum attachment to grab dust on the floor's baseboard. While the bed or couch is away from the wall, be sure to vacuum the section of floor where the piece normally sits since it's easy for dust to get trapped there, as well.

Wash walls, cabinets and baseboards

Walls, cabinets and baseboards are frequently overlooked when it's time to clean because dust and other messes fall to the floor, right? While gravity proves this is true, dust, kitchen splatter and pet hair still manage to cling to these vertical surfaces. Use a sponge and some hand dishwashing soap to wash these surfaces and be sure to frequently rinse out the sponge. A sponge mop is a helpful tool to use for those high, hard to reach places. After cleaning these areas, dry them with a clean cloth.

Clean Out the Refrigerator

This is probably one of the most dreaded tasks of spring cleaning, which is why people tend to skip it. However, cleaning out your fridge is important for reasons other than making it look spic and span. Many times left overs or other less frequently used food items get pushed to the back of the fridge and are forgotten about. You can't always tell if food has spoiled by how it smells or looks, so remember: when in doubt, throw it out. Check out these WebMD tips on storing food.

Taking the time to wipe down the inside of your fridge is also important. If you don't clean up spills as soon as they happen, spring cleaning is your time to scrub them away and sanitize. It's also important to vacuum or dust your fridge's condenser coils to keep it from overheating. This should be done twice per year to ensure your fridge is running correctly.

De-junk your junk drawer

Everybody has one and it's probably a big, tangled mess, right? Can you name what's in your drawer's back corner? If not, you probably need to de-junk your junk drawer. Miscellaneous drawers are necessary for loose end items that don't really have a home, but it's also necessary to keep them clean.

Everybody has their own junk drawer needs, but a few precautions can be taken to make sure your drawer doesn't get too tough to close. Help keep your junk drawer as neat as possible with small organizing pieces. For example, keep your rubber bands tidy by sealing them in a plastic baggie or keep pens and pencils in line by storing them in a tray or pencil pouch. It might seem contradictory to say keep your junk drawer organized, but small steps like these will help keep your drawer tamed.

Don't forget the small stuff

Drapes are a big culprit for collecting dust, which can cause sneezing and sniffles. This spring, dust your drapes with a vacuum attachment and then air fluff them in the dryer to eliminate allergies.

Spring is the start of warmer temperatures which means you will start to use your ceiling fans again but before you do, clean them! Dust piles up on top of fan blades, making it too easy to spread dust throughout the room, so make sure you don't forget to give your fan a good dusting before you use it again.

Give your welcome mat a nice cleaning, as well. Shake it, wash it or swat it with a broom. Your rugs are your number one defense against tracked-in dirt, so make sure you keep them clean!

Don't fear cleaning this spring, embrace it. Giving your house a complete top to bottom cleaning once a year is not the worst thing in the world. Not many people truly look forward to cleaning, but your house will thank you for it when you're done!
