One of the easiest selections when buying jewellery is a diamond
pendant. This is because they can be worn by everyone, on any
occasion. The most popular pendants are single stone
solitaire pendants featuring round or princess diamonds displayed
in highly polished white gold or platinum settings.
The most popular diamond pendants are single stone diamond
pendants, also called solitaire diamond pendants. The diamond
in the pendant can be almost any shape and size, although
popularity of diamond shape in pendants tends to follow the same
pattern as with engagement rings in that round cut pendants are the
most popular, followed by princess cut pendants, and the other
fancy diamond shapes making up the rest.
The vast majority of round cut pendants will be single stone,
with the diamond claw set into 3, 4 or 6 claws, and the diamond
sitting in a bezel (or basket). This type of claw setting is
really designed to show off the diamond to its very best, as it
minimises the amount of metal surrounding the diamond without
compromising the security of the diamond itself. Other shaped
diamonds usually have claws which reflect their individual shapes -
for example, princess cut diamond pendants will usually have a
single right angled claw at each corner, whilst marquise cut
diamond pendants will usually have a single V-shaped claw at each
end of the diamond to protect the tip.
Needless to say that there are many varieties of settings for
pendants, with some also of the semi-rub over and the complete
rub-over design, which is more in keeping with classic designs
rather than being in line with today's fashion conscious
consumers.
Pendants aren't of course all of the single stone variety.
As fashions change over time, an increasing amount of designs
have become available such as trilogy pendants, with 3 stones set
into the mounts, and other precious stone pendants to provide
something different such as diamond cross pendants. Some
people also believe that wearing a particular birthstone around the
neck - and therefore close to your heart - will bring good luck,
health and prosperity, amongst others.
When buying jewellery, it is often a good idea to try to build
up sets. In other words, if the diamond in her engagement
ring is a round brilliant cut, then it would be a logical decision
to buy a round diamond pendant, as this will match and complement
her engagement ring when worn together.
You might also want to go one step further and make sure that
the pendant diamond is not only the same shape as the engagement
ring diamond, but that it is also the same quality, and
certification such as a GIA certified diamond, for example.
Many of the diamond pendants offered by Quantum Diamonds are
part of a pendant and earrings set, and you will find details of
the matching earrings alongside each pendant.
One carat diamond pendants are the magical mark for many people
as this means the diamond is a good size, which is one of the most
important considerations when buying pendants - after all, it is a
single stone and so size is important on this occasion, as well as
making sure that the diamond clarity and diamond colour are the
best your money can buy.
White gold diamond pendants are the most popular metal as it
provides a fabulous sparkling, chrome finish which is the preferred
choice of many, and is also an affordable alternative to platinum.
Because a diamond pendant is unlikely to be subject to the
same wear and possible abrasive materials that an engagement ring
encounters, it is less important to consider the hard wearing
nature of platinum.
Diamond gold pendants also make an excellent gift for more
traditional jewellery consumers, who prefer the finish and styling
that yellow gold offers.
Diamond pendants come with a hollow loop at the top, where a
chain loops through.
The chain, of course, is another of your considerations.
Chains will generally be available in 16" or 18" in length,
and available in all the various precious metals.
Needless to say that if you're looking to buy a white gold
pendant, then also look for a white gold chain to match, and
likewise with yellow gold, although this is of course the 'norm'
and no strict rules apply!
