Choosing Your Field of Study

You may not be quite sure of what field of study you would like to pursue when it comes to your career as an architect. There are some basic beginning courses to take, of course, such as theory of architecture and calculus, before branching off into specific fields of study. Eventually, though, you'll need to choose where you want to specialize, whether it is in one area or more. You may be certain of this before you begin your study, or you may want to explore your options while you are studying the basics. It's a good idea to take initiative and research your options, even beyond what you are learning in classes. Ask for tours through different architecture firms, correspond with freelancers. Try to form some clear ideas so you're not feeling pressured when it comes time to branch into a specialty field of study.

Developing Your specialty

Once you've decided which direction that you want to go as an architect, your next step is to develop your specialty. This could mean staying in the same school or it could mean going to a school that is better equipped to teach your chosen specialty after you've received your associate's or bachelor's degree. There are institutes that specialize in such fields as home design, city planning, and commercial buildings, and you want to make sure that you're getting the best education in the specific field that you've chosen.

Launching Your Career

Once you've completed you initial institutional education, your next step is usually to intern in a firm or with a freelancer that specializes in your chosen field. In fact, in some states internship is required. This may or may not include being paid, but what it should absolutely include is furthering your education in a very hands-on way. During or after internship comes accreditation, which involves taking and passing a licensure exam. After accreditation, many beginning architects start with firms to cement their careers and continue learning from those with more experience. Some eventually branch into freelance work, which is something else that you'll want to consider. It's a long and often challenging road to a career as an architect. The good news is that anyone can learn what it takes to be an entrepreneur if they are committed to doing so.

Ask for help

A small business start up is going to require an entire network to survive. From the family members closest to you, to the political decision makers in your state, your business will be impacted by a large number of connections. Make a commitment to reaching out to people. Don't be too proud to ask for assistance when it's needed. From finding a mentor, to asking for a loan to asking for sales, the process never ends. Unfortunately, this process also requires the ability to handle rejection.

An owner must also be capable of developing positive relationships with people from a variety of backgrounds. As they are the primary face of the company in the beginning, it's critical that their face be a positive one. This can be tricky when dealing with irritable customers or underperforming vendors.

Don't rush the process

The excitement of the small start up can be addicting. It's tempting to capitalize on this powerful emotion and get things moving as fast as possible. But the most successful entrepreneurs are those who commit themselves to exhaustive research, education and planning. They don't get bogged down and paralyzed by the process, rather they are able to effectively balance preparation with the capitalization of opportunity. This process is continuous; as the operations must be constantly re-evaluated as the business grows and expands.

Do you have shooting pain, soreness or stiffness in your wrists? The words sound too terrible to be true - you may have carpal tunnel syndrome! Hopefully, this is not the case. But if it is, early detection will make it easier to treat. Recognize the warning signs, and you can get it beat before it beats you.

Signs Of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

The main sign is a numbness and tingling in the thumb, pointing finger and middle fingers. You might also feel a little of it in your ring finger. If it's already advanced a bit, there might also be pain along the "median nerve," which goes from your wrist down the middle of your palm, and connects to the fingers there.

Another sign is that your hand and fingers seem to fall asleep easily. You'd expect your hands to go numb and tingly if you'd been sitting on them, but it often happens for apparently no reason at all.

It may be accompanied by a weakness in the hand, or cold feeling in the fingers. Sometimes it's hard to grip things, and you may find yourself dropping things easily. In some cases, the tingling and numb feeling might come with a burning sensation, or sudden cramping.

These symptoms are often more painful at night. Sometimes, it's so bad it wakes you up. This is tricky, because we all wake up with tingling and numb extremities where we've slept on them. If it's painful, or if it seems to trouble these three fingers more than the rest of the hand, it might be carpal tunnel syndrome.

In serious cases, the numbness, tingling and pain may go up into the wrist and arm, and may even extend as far as the shoulder.

The Good News - It's NOT Carpal Tunnel Syndrome!

Now for the good news - Here are the signs that your problem ISN'T carpal tunnel syndrome at all, but something else.

Is there's numbness and tingling in only one hand? It will usually affect both hands, although one might be more affected than the other. If you've got pain in only one hand, it might be an injury or nerve trouble in just that hand.

If all you're fingers hurt and not just the thumb, pointer and middle, this means you've got another problem. This affects the wrist, median nerve and these three fingers only.

Good thing it's not carpal tunnel syndrome... but still, you'd better run to the doctor; it could be something worse! Whether you're suffering from this or anything else, go and see a doctor immediately. The sooner you begin treatment, the easier it will be.

Whether you have had a sudden injury or a long-lasting defect, you might need hand surgery to repair the damage. Most people use their hands to do any task, including working and driving, which are necessary. Though you might be worried about the impending operation, it is best to get it over with as soon as possible so that you can have use of your hands once again. Knowing how to prepare the procedure will be helpful.

Since you need both hands to drive safely, you will need to arrange for someone to drop you off and pick you up on the day of the operation. You will probably be under some type of anesthesia anyway, so driving is not usually a good idea after most medical treatments. Getting a friend or family member to drive you and perhaps stay with you during the operation is optimal since you might need some support as well.

You should also know the risks before you go into surgery. It is possible to get an infection afterwards, mainly since most types of hand surgery require some incision. The best way to avoid an infection is to keep the area clean and covered when possible. You may also experience loss of sensation in the area, or even blood clots. If you notice either of these issues, contact your doctor immediately to get it fixed.

You should be aware of the recovery period to be expected after the treatment. Find out from your doctor before the operation how long you need to be out of work. In some cases, you will probably get a bandage and be able to return to work the next day, while other treatments could take weeks of rest to be fully recovered.

Your preparation for hand surgery should also depend on the type of procedure you are having. There are treatments for a myriad of conditions, so research the specific one you have before you go into surgery. For example, the procedure to treat carpal tunnel will be different from the one to treat a broken finger. The recovery period will also be different.

When you go to a consultation, your surgeon should talk to you about what the treatment will entail. He or she should also go over the recovery period instructions, as well as how to prepare. As long as you listen to your doctor, research the operation, and keep in touch with supportive friends and family, you will be fine.

There are a few misconceptions about liposuction that should be cleared up. Women and men who have lost weight may find those last ten flabby pounds on their belly, thighs and arms just doesn't go away and they are the perfect candidates to see positive results with liposuction. Having surgery to remove those extra ten pounds of fat may be the only way to effectively lose the weight.

Sagging breast can be the result of many things including weight loss, age, breast feeding and pregnancy. Whatever the reasons your breast are sagging the end results are the same and a breast lift may be the answer you are looking for. A breast lift -called a mastopexy raises the breast up, removes excessive skin and recreates your breast before nature and gravity took their course.

Before you under go a breast lift you may want to make sure you are done having children, although it is not a requirement. As any woman knows who has had children, pregnancy will enlarge your breast and the subsequent birth and breastfeeding will potentially led to saggy breast so you may be having a lift done multiple times if you get pregnant in between your procedures.

Another factor you may want to consider is your future weight. If you are planning to lose a significant amount of weight in the near future you should discuss this with your plastic surgeon during the initial consultation. Weight loss can sometimes mean a reduction in breast size and this of course can lead to saggy breast again in your future. So discuss this with your doctor so they can help you decide if a breast lift is right for you now or in the future.
